An opportunity for you to sample some of the talent that exists in Western PA

The 13th Annual Blues Society of Western PA’s Blues Challenge is fast approaching.

The following is the scoop on what to expect for the day.

Date: Saturday, April 29, 2017

Place: Cornerstone at Tonidale

7011 Steubenville Pike, Oakdale, PA 15071

Time: 1 pm – 10 pm

Who: The event is open to the public. Children must be accompanied by their parents or guardians.

$12 public, $10 Blues members, $7 students

The Blues scoop on what to expect that day.....

  • Fourteen acts will give their best twenty minute set. There will be a quick change over between acts to keep the day moving.

  • A panel of judges will follow the Blues criteria established by the Blues Foundation in Memphis, TN to determine one winning band and one winning solo/duo act.

  • Each winner will be given a cash prize and a $500 recording gift certificate. Each will be guaranteed a slot at the 2018 International Blues Challenge. (The only way to get that slot is be a representative of a blues society.)

  • Please note that times may change. Please arrive early so that you do not miss your favorite act.

  • Affordable food and beverages will be available throughout the day for purchase. Please, no outside food or beverages.

  • A dinner hour will be observed midway through the event to allow the judges to stretch, dine and relax.

  • During the dinner hour, music will be provided by the 2017 Youth Blues Representative, Pierce Dipner.

  • Pierce will also be given an award for his participation at the International Youth Showcase.

  • The cash prizes and awards will be given after the final act.

  • The Guitarist of the Year award will also be presented that evening per the judges determination.

The evening festivities....

  • After party at Pub at Tonidale (adjacent to the Cornerstone at Tonidale)

  • FREE Event...open to public.

  • 10 PM – 1:30 AM

  • The Jimmy Adler Band, the 2016 winning BSWPA Blues Challenge representative, will provide the music.

  • Food and beverages will be available.

Lodging:

*****Please check with your hotel about shuttle service. Many have shuttles until 11 pm. Many will get you to the Cornerstone at Tonidale. Uber and taxis will be in the area to shuttle you back to your hotel. Have fun and stay safe.
