About the BSWPA
The Blues Society of Western Pennsylvania (BSWPA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization affiliated with the Blues Foundation (www.blues.org). The purpose of the BSWPA is to provide for the preservation, promotion, appreciation and enhancement of the uniquely American art form of blues music.
The BSWPA serves the local community by organizing and hosting various musical performances and fund raising events. Community organizations we’ve supported include the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, Music Smiles, The Wounded Warriors Project, Adagio Health, Blues for Toys and Blues to Fight Blindness.
Some BSWPA community projects include:
-
Blues in the Schools takes the historical aspect of the music to the children into our local schools.
-
The PITCH (Putting Instruments In Children's Hands) program that donates instruments to children that are musically inclined but financially challenged.
-
Concerts for our local veterans. The Blues is a Healer Tour takes the music to the Veterans Homes in the Pittsburgh area. We also have organized and provided music at the Veterans Stand Down and at the Disabled Veterans’ Olympic games.
The BSWPA also organizes and sponsors an Annual Blues Challenge. The winner of this event represents the western Pennsylvania region at the International Blues Challenge (IBC) in Memphis. We are proud that our winner from 2013 placed 3rd at the IBC in 2014.
If you are interested in helping us serve the community while keeping the blues alive in our region, please join the Blues Society of Western Pennsylvania or make a donation. Your contribution to our fundraising efforts will help us accomplish our mission, serve our community and preserve for generations to come that unique, American music known as “The Blues.” The Blues Community thanks you for your support.
